Council on Aging in Union County is a private, nonprofit agency striving to promote a quality of life and supportive services for adults 60 years of age and older living in Union County. As a focal point on aging, the agency’s purpose is to postpone or prevent institutionalization, respecting independence and dignity and the right to choose in reviewing options for care.
Formally organized in 1972 and chartered in 1973, the agency received its first Older Americans Act funding in 1974. Although times have changed, our mission to assist in maintaining independence in one’s own home remains the same thirty years later, although today’s 60 or 70 year-old may be caring for an 80 or 90 year-old parent.
